Nail fungus affects 10% of women and men worldwide and can cause nails to become yellow or discolored. As the infection advances, the nail can become thick, brittle, and separate from the nail bed. It can also cause pain when wearing shoes or walking. Oral treatments for nail fungus can be prolonged and/or associated with adverse side effects. Topical and home remedies have not been proven to be effective.

Laser nail treatments are a new approach that promotes the growth of healthy, clear nails. The process involves passing the laser beam over the infected nails and surrounding skin until enough energy has reached the nail bed. No anesthetic is needed but the nails will feel warm during the procedure. A single treatment session takes approximately 20 minutes for 5 – 10 nails. Most clients experience improvement after one session. The required number of sessions will vary depending on how severely each nail is affected, and are spaced 4 – 6 weeks apart.

It is important to remove nail polish and toe adornments the day before the procedure. Most clients describe the procedure as being very comfortable, but some may experience a small pinch that resolves quickly. Immediately following the procedure the nails may feel warm for a few minutes. The majority of clients can resume normal activities immediately.
