Friendly and Knowledgeable Gynecology Specialists

We offer complete gynecological services to women of all ages.

At Gynecology Partners, we offer many services aimed at identifying any potential problems or treating existing ones. We are committed to providing you with the best care available in a caring and professional manner. The following are some of the services our gynecology specialists offer.

Pap Smear/HPV Evaluation

The most important risk factor for cervical cancer is infection with the high-risk type of Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). We offer an educational assessment of abnormal Pap smears, HPV testing, and microscopic evaluation of the cervix (called colposcopy). We provide state-of-the-art treatment when necessary to prevent cervical cancer and offer alternatives to surgery.

Evaluation of Abnormal Uterine Bleeding

Hysteroscopy is an outpatient procedure used to examine the inside of your uterus. We are able to see abnormal growths, polyps, and fibroids. A narrow scope is inserted through the cervix. Using sterile saline and a fiberoptic light, the inside of the uterus can be visualized.

Endometrial biopsies can be performed during hysteroscopy or alone. A small straw-like catheter is inserted into the uterine cavity through the cervical canal. A small amount of tissue is aspirated into the sampler and sent to pathology for analysis.

Treatment for Abnormal Uterine Bleeding

We will evaluate the cause of the bleeding. For benign problems, treatment could include, observation, medication, surgery or endometrial ablation.

Endometrial ablation is a minor procedure using a small probe placed inside the uterine cavity. Radiowaves are used to heat the inside of the uterus. The heat cauterizes the blood vessels in the uterine lining and stops heavy bleeding. This can be performed in day surgery with intravenous sedation. The procedure takes only a few minutes. Patients are able to get back to regular activity the next day and often this is an alternative to a hysterectomy.

Evaluation of Abnormal Pap Smears, Colposcopy, and Cervical Biopsies

In the event of an abnormal pap smear, we may recommend a colposcopy and a cervical biopsy. Colposcopy is a simple procedure that helps us closely examine your cervix, vagina, and vulva for signs of precancer, cancer, or other diseases. If we find an unusual area of cells, we may collect a cervical biopsy for laboratory testing.

Removal of Cervical Polyps

During your examination, we may remove any cervical polyps that are present. Most polyps are benign, but we recommend a laboratory examination to rule out cancer.

Evaluation of Chronic Vaginitis

Vaginitis is an inflammation of the vagina often resulting in discharge, itching, and pain. The common types are bacterial vaginosis, yeast infections, and trichomoniasis.  During your physical examination, we may take a sample of the discharge to determine the cause of the inflammation. Treatment will depend on the type of vaginitis you have. Chronic vaginitis is when the condition keeps recurring. We will adjust the type and length of treatment to ensure it does not recur.

Evaluation of Vulvar Lesions, Itching, Burning

Different conditions can affect your vulva, ranging from mild infections to skin conditions and, very rarely, to cancer. If you experience symptoms including itching, bleeding, rashes or a lump in your vulvar area, schedule an appointment with us so that we can identify the cause and determine the appropriate treatment.

Vulvar Biopsies

A vulvar biopsy involves taking a sample tissue from the vulva to examine lesions for malignancy or to determine the causes of itching, redness, swelling, or changes in color. We may take a biopsy to investigate a lump or sore that has recently appeared. The results will help us determine your best course of treatment.

Evaluation of Breast Problems

Common breast problems experienced by women of all ages include lumps, pain or tenderness, nipple inversion or discharge, and changes in the skin texture. Fortunately, most breast problems do not indicate breast cancer. During your exam, we will evaluate the condition of your breasts. A new lump may require a diagnostic mammogram or an ultrasound, and if it appears suspicious, we will likely recommend a biopsy.

Evaluation of Pelvic Pain and Fibroids

There are many reasons you may be experiencing pelvic pain. We will assess your condition and determine the causes of your discomfort. Often during pelvic exams, we find symptoms of uterine fibroids and will recommend an ultrasound to confirm their presence. We may opt to watch and wait if the fibroids are causing no symptoms, or based on your condition, we may decide to treat them with medication or to remove them surgically.
